Kayenta Trail – 3.5 Miles – out and back. Moderate
Getting there – I stayed in Springdale, so I walked to the park entrance and the visitor center, got on the shuttle and it was Stop 6 on the shuttle
Lower Emerald Pool: This is the easiest of the three pools to reach and one of the most scenic stops. You’ll encounter a few short steps and an opportunity to walk beneath a small waterfall, which can be a fun and refreshing experience, especially on warmer days. This pool is accessible from a short, well-marked path that’s about a tenth of a mile past Middle Emerald Pool.
Middle Emerald Pool: Just a bit beyond the Lower Pool, the Middle Emerald is generally viewed as the most scenic, with some people describing it as a must-see. This spot can be reached fairly easily, and the trail here is less crowded than at the Lower Pool. However, there are some rocky and uneven steps along the way.
Upper Emerald Pool: This section is a bit more challenging, with steeper inclines and larger rocks along the path. Some people recommend skipping it if you’re pressed for time, as it doesn’t always have much water, particularly outside of rainy seasons. However, the views and relative solitude can make it worth the effort if you’re seeking a more secluded spot.
